Moving FAQs: Planning a Move

Moving house isn’t an easy process. Even if you’ve done it a number of times before, there will always be variables and so naturally there will be some questions.

Planning a move doesn’t have to be stressful. It can be a fun and exciting time for you and your family. We think it might be helpful if we go over a few common questions to ask while moving, so that if you come to some bumps in the road, you’ll know the answers.

So before you jump into your big move, read on as we ease some of your apprehensions!

How Long Does a Removal Take?

We wish there was an easy answer to this, where we could say “it takes a day” or “we promise to do it faster than anyone else” but that’s just not possible.

There are loads of variables that affect how long it will take to move your belongings:

  • Number of staff carrying out the removal
  • Amount of belongings
  • Travel time

It’s best to hope the job is done well, rather than quickly. We want to take as much care of your belongings as possible. Check out what some of our previous customers have to say about our service.

How Does a Removal Company Decide the Price?

A removal company will calculate the time it will take to load your items and unload them at the other end. This, along with distance/fuel and the number of staff they’ll need to carry out the job.

If it’s a long-distance move, the price will go up in the event of the movers having to stay somewhere overnight.

What Information Does a Removal Company Need From Me?

When you’re looking for a quote, there are a few pieces of information that will help speed up the process:

  • Where you’re moving to
  • When you’re moving
  • Is there suitable access to both properties?
  • Are there large or cumbersome items to consider?
  • What time do the new owners anticipate getting in?

If you can provide this information, you’ll get an accurate quote.

Do I Need to Disconnect My Appliances?

When it comes to items like cookers/anything that uses gas, neither yourself or a removal firm should attempt to disconnect them. You’ll need a qualified tradesperson to do that work.

When it comes to the rest of your appliances, take care to make sure they’re all off before you unplug them. It will speed up the whole process if everything is ready to be lifted and loaded.

Is It Good Value For Money to Use a Removal Company?

The answer to this question depends on how much you value your time, and the simplicity of a move. If you’re the kind of person who has the resources, time, and level-headedness to pull off a move, by all means do it!

But hiring a removal company can save you valuable time, allowing you to enjoy the process of moving to a new home.
